North Dakota's half-lost heritage
Located four miles west of New Town on the south side of US Highway 23 is the Three Tribes Museum, a part of North Dakota’s heritage and kept open only through the oil money of its most generous benefactor, Helen Gough, who at the time of her death in 1963 was one of the wealthiest women in North Dakota.
The Three Tribes museum has an interesting history, almost as interesting as the heritage it seeks to protect in the combined memory of the community and wider nation. The museum is different from other historical centers in that it is, to some extent, protected by its ongoing links to the late Helen Gough. Read more
